What is TestTafel

TestTafel is a foundation that was created to fund De Sering. By dining at TestTafel, you help us offer affordable food at the People's Kitchen and free space for the initiatives of our guests, people from the neighbourhood and activists. Our financial policy is therefore public, and can be found here.

TestTafel started in June 2021 as a plan to organise four crowd funded dinners for friends and family, to build some buffer while we were looking for a new location for De Sering.

At the third edition, almost all guests were people we had never met before, so we decided to continue. A quick four months later and TestTafel was open twice a week, had a wine menu, cocktails and its own group of volunteers, workers and fans.

In December 2021 we got the offer to open a restaurant in a new theatre hub called De Sloot. Even though we had very little money or experience, we decided to go for it. We did a crowdfund, started with construction, and on the 27th of May 2022 we opened our doors.

The menus

The seven course menu is served on Wednesday - Saturday. The price for the food is a donation between 35,- and 65,-.

Every Tuesday, the chefs, and everyone that wants to help out that week, gather to design the menu. We select the dishes based on techniques we want to learn, classics we want to turn vegan or things we think are just fun to cook.

Wednesday is new menu day!  On this day, we bring the new menu for that week into reality for the first time. For us it's the most exciting and interesting day of the week, and we would like you to be part of it! If you are up for it we would love you feedback on where to take a dish or an idea.

There is no set style or food tradition. You can find Bánh mì sliders, a vegan take on bouillabaisse, and Jerusalem artichoke ganache tart all in one menu.

Reservations for the seven course menu are required. You can make your reservations here. Reservations for new menu day can be made here.

Directions, accessibility and contact information

You can find us at Rhoneweg 6 in Amsterdam. We are only a 7 minute walk from station Sloterdijk. You can also park for free in the surrounding area, however these parking spots are often filled. You can also park at P&R Sloterdijk for 1,- euro.

We can work with most allergies and dietary restrictions. Please let us know as far ahead as possible! Because we change our menu every week we do not have special versions of our menu ready. The further we know in advance the greater the chance that we can make an adjusted version of all the dishes.

Our location is wheelchair accessible and we have a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

You can contact TestTafel via email: info@testtafel.nl

You can make any changes to your reservation via your confirmation email.

Catering, events and collaborations

We are available for catering on location at any scale. From intimate private diners with friends and family to large scale festivals or events. For more information on what our kitchen can offer click here.

We love to combine TestTafel with events! Techno parties, pop-ups, theatre or anything else you can think of. Interested? Read more about how you can make your ideas a reality with us and De Sering here.

Finances

At TestTafel we try to balance a living wage for our workers, contributions to De Sering and long term viability of the project. In order to work towards the best balance we have set ourselves some rules.

There are no owners. As a foundation its impossible for any of us to own TestTafel. Since there are no owners, none of the profits can be taken by us and no one has to be bought out when someone leaves.

We all earn the same. Everyone at TestTafel gets paid the same. Irrespective of experience, responsibilities and age. At the moment this is minimum wage. Over time we want to build up to a living wage of 16,- per hour.

The profit is for De Sering. We are building towards 10% profit. All of this money is meant for De Sering.

Our finances are public. In the long term we want all our financial numbers to be public and posted here on the website. At the moment, providing continuous accurate data on our website is still too much work. We hope to start publishing in 2024.
